Hello gorgeous, and welcome back to The Experience! Today, we’re diving into something I know a lot of new followers are curious about — the difference between main character energy and main character syndrome. This distinction is crucial for anyone committed to personal growth, empowerment, and stepping fully into their confidence.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I am an empowerment and confidence coach. I teach women to rewrite their narratives and show up as the main character of their own lives. And we do this not by waiting for permission or external validation, but through small yet bold actions toward the life we want to create.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed that people are paying attention to my “Main Character” necklace — something I’ve been wearing for almost eight months. And when they read it, I get one of two reactions:
A smile and a nod: “Yes, ma’am, you are!” (to which I always say, “And so are you.”)
A hesitant or confused: “Main character?”
The second reaction usually comes from a misunderstanding — people often confuse main character energy with main character syndrome.
When you have main character syndrome, you believe you are the only important character in the story. This is when we get stuck in the “trauma Olympics,” constantly asking, Why is this happening to me? Why isn’t anyone helping me? It’s a cycle of pity parties, overreactions, and feeling entitled to how others respond to your life.
This isn’t what we practice in The Kollective.
What Is Main
Character Energy?
Main character energy, on the other hand, is the radical ownership of your life. It’s about recognizing that while you can’t control everything that happens to you, you can always choose how you respond.
It’s about rewriting the story you’ve been handed — from your parents, your corporate job, old relationships, or past experiences — and asking yourself: How do I want to play the cards I’ve been dealt?
Having main character energy means plot twists are possible at any moment. You can change the game for yourself, recommit to the person you’ve always wanted to be, and take bold action toward your goals.
Think about it: How many times have you said, “This is the year I’m going to lose weight, change jobs, find the right partner, or learn a new skill”?
Then, somehow, you fall back into your old patterns because it feels comfortable. Becoming the main character of your life isn’t about comfort — it’s about courage. It’s about taking the bold, necessary actions that lead to a different life.
When you consistently choose action over stagnation, you build confidence, clarity, and alignment with your purpose. That’s what separates women who dream from women who live their main character life.
How Main Character Energy Empowers Others
Here’s the beauty of embracing main character energy: When you show up boldly and authentically, you give others permission to do the same. By being fully yourself, unapologetically, you model courage, self-worth, and empowerment.
This is why I feel no qualms about claiming my main character energy — it’s not arrogance; it’s authenticity in action.
If you’re ready to stop watching life happen and start actively rewriting your story, here’s 4 steps to begin:
Take radical responsibility for your decisions, actions, and reactions.
Recommit to the person you said you wanted to be — no excuses, no waiting.
Take one bold action today, no matter how small, toward the life you truly want.
Surround yourself with a supportive community that encourages growth and empowerment.
