Welcome back, Gorgeous! If you’ve ever felt like your emotions were running you instead of the other way around, this blog is for you. In this episode of The Main Character Experience™ Podcast, Coach Kala Simmons—your go-to confidence strategist, self-proclaimed feelings translator, and main character mentor—breaks down how to stop living on emotional autopilot and start processing your feelings in a healthy, empowering way.
Whether you’re dealing with anger, grief, fear, or anxiety, you’ll learn how to recognize, regulate, and release your emotions without burning bridges or sabotaging your peace.
For years, Coach Kala lived like her emotions were facts. If she felt dismissed, she believed she was disrespected. If she felt abandoned, it meant she wasn’t loved. If anger showed up, it was time to unleash it. But here’s the truth: emotions are signals, not verdicts. They tell you something is happening inside, but they don’t tell the whole story.
Learning to regulate your emotions is the difference between being reactive and being intentional. It’s the key to main character energy, emotional intelligence, and creating the life you actually want.
Coach Kala shares a 4-step framework she now teaches inside The Brink, her three-week emotional reset experience designed for women who feel everything deeply but want to live with more control and peace.
1️⃣ Acknowledge the Emotion: Name It to Tame It
Stop lying to yourself. If you’re mad, hurt, or embarrassed, admit it. Emotions don’t heal themselves when ignored. Writing them down, talking about them, or simply naming them aloud is the first step to taking control.
“You are mad, you are hurt, you do feel embarrassed—and that’s okay. This is not the time to say ‘I’m fine.’”
2️⃣ Understand the Emotion: Ask Why and Where It Came From
Every feeling has a root. Ask yourself:
Where did this come from?
What need is going unmet?
What story am I telling myself right now?
Sometimes your anger is actually grief in high heels. Sometimes your silence is fear disguised as indifference. Understanding your emotions at this level prevents misfires and overreactions.
3️⃣ Recognize How the Emotion Manifests Physically
Emotions don’t just live in your mind—they live in your body. Pay attention to physical cues:
Chest tightening
Sweaty hands
Shaking knees
Stomach knots
Ask yourself: Is it worth staying in this emotional state? Recognizing the physical cost of unprocessed emotions is a wake-up call to do something about it.
4️⃣ Express Emotions Healthily: Release Without Rupture
Emotional release is essential—but it doesn’t have to destroy your relationships. Healthy ways to express your feelings include:
Journaling
Intentional conversations
Screaming into a pillow (or car if needed)
Avoid the trap of “protecting your peace” at someone else’s expense. True peace doesn’t require collateral damage—it’s about conscious, accountable, and safe expression.
“Healing isn’t just feeling better; it’s doing bette
If you want to be the main character in your own life, you cannot let emotions call the shots. Emotional intelligence and regulation are the ultimate power moves for women who feel deeply but refuse to live like victims of their feelings.
This is exactly what Coach Kala helps women do inside The Kollective: pause, reset, and create peace & confidence from the inside out.
